What is the Tail Lamp Bulb all about?

The rear light bulbs light up when the headlights are on. This allows the drivers behind you to see your car. It is common for the bulb socket to melt, causing the bulbs not to work.

Keep in mind:

  • When a tail lamp bulb is replaced, all of the vehicle’s light bulbs should be checked.
  • After a tail lamp bulb is replaced, it should always be checked to see if it works, in case the problem lies with the switch or fuse.

How it's done:

  • Inspect bulbs, sockets, wires, and fuses.
  • Remove and replace the bulb if it is blown.
  • Repair or replace any damaged bulb holder(s)
  • Check operation of all running and headlamps.

Our recommendation:

A mechanic should check all the lights in your car every time you get a major service.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Tail Lamp Bulb?

  • Rear lights not working.

How important is this service?

Tail lamps exist so that vehicles behind you can see your car. When you turn on your headlights, your tail lamps (light bulbs at the rear of your vehicle) illuminate. This keeps your car well lit, and helps vehicles behind you see your car. When your tail lamp bulbs stop working, your car will be less visible from behind, which is a safety hazard. Driving without ignited tail lamps is also illegal, and the fix-it ticket can carry a hefty price tag.

Robert Showed up early and was friendly. He was good enough to alert me to some upcoming maintenance needs, but didn't try to up-sell me or make it out to me an emergency. Robert answered all of my questions and did a great job

Subaru Impreza H4-2.5L Turbo - Fuel Pump - Everett, Washington
Cesar was very knowledgable in helping diagnose my problem with my WRX not starting. He first suggested to change the spark plugs because there was too much fuel in the spark plugs when checked. Since I knew that had not been done in a while, I agreed. After the change, my car was good as new. Two days later my car stopped starting again. Cesar came out again and found out that it was my fuel pump. He did a great job and let me know what else I should watch out for next. YourMechanic is way better than bringing your car into a car repair shop and way more convenient. You don’t have to tow your broken down car to a place then trying to figure out a way home. My girlfriend and I will never use any other service. Thank you again for all the work you have done. And I hope I don’t see you soon or if I do I will be quick to schedule with you.
