What is the Crankshaft Position Sensor all about?

Many newer cars have computerized engine management systems that rely on sensors to report data to the computer. The crankshaft position sensor is used in conjunction with the camshaft position sensor to control ignition timing and to let the computer know when to inject fuel and provide spark sequence. Due to the mounting locations of this sensor, it is common for heat and oil leaks to cause this sensor to fail.

Keep in mind:

Damage to the crankshaft position sensor is sometimes caused by leaking oil, which means there may be another component of your vehicle that needs replacement or repair.
The electrical connector can also be damaged, and should be inspected every time the position sensor is replaced.

Scan the car for trouble codes.
Remove and replace crankshaft position sensor.
Clear trouble codes.
Check for the proper operation of the car.

Gary was outstanding!! I took my car to a well known service company and having them diagnose my auto problem, I was unhappy with their price quote. Robert Bell was extremely professional, quickly diagnosed, isolated & resolved the fault within the hour! Robert reassured me that my fuel pump pressure, all voltages and mechanics were within spec. Through fault management, Robert identified a intermittent / faulty TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) recently installed which "triggered" the "no start" on this vehicle & resolved w/o new parts.
