What is the Windshield Wiper Switch all about?

The windshield wiper switch is located inside your car and is attached to the steering column. When the driver flips the wiper control, the wiper motor turns on/off the wipers. If the wiper blades are not stopping, it may be the motor itself and not the switch or it may be the “park” switch. Your mechanic should verify the problem before replacing the switch.

Keep in mind:

  • If the windshield wipers do not work, it may be the windshield wiper motor that is malfunctioning, and not the switch.
  • When the windshield wiper switch is replaced, the entire windshield wiper system should be inspected.

  • Inspect the switch, fuses, and wirings.
  • Remove and replace the switch if faulty.
  • Operate the windshield wipers and verify proper speed and park operations.

David is a very experienced mechanic and I appreciate his sensibility that if one part is worn out, than its partner that's been on the car just as long, should also be replaced. From experience, I normally expect that because I'd rather take care of something now than later having to take a car in or schedule another appointment especially because I'd rather avoid a car breaking down. Its a much more fun experience with preventative maintenance vs. emergency maintenance. I think that depends on people's budget but its nice to have that option and especially to have someone with much more experience to explain that.

Torrieanto, was very good. My only issue was he was delayed getting here. After driving the car, the clutch still has some play in it. Don't think it is his fault, the line probably just needs to be bled some more. If possible I would like to speak with Torrieanto to address the issue.

In the past I've worked on my own cars and even have electrical training. I am very pleased that everything Vladimir said was accurate within what I knew technically and even fit symptoms that I've experienced with my car but had not made the connection. One thing that stood out was that Vladimir is the first mechanic EVER to make sure my battery terminals and connections were protected with a battery protector sealant. I used to do that when I knew better with a previous car. Thankfully Vladimir knew what to do!
