To check for engine-mount problems, the mechanic may try shifting from "neutral" to "drive" and back, while the engine is running. If the vibrations disappear or reduce dramatically in "neutral," it’s likely that you need new engine mounts.

You should first have the computer system tested so the noise can be completely diagnosed to find the cause of cold start rattling noise. You may just need to replace cam phaser or timing chain and guides with the phasers....
