What is the Fog Light Switch all about?

Your fog lights work to reflect off not just fog, but also snow, glare, and dust particles – in short, anything that can obstruct your vision. They can also help you to see animals, tree branches, or other debris on the road so that you’re able to avoid them. Fog lights are positioned near the bottom of the front bumper of your car, and they deliver a flat, wide beam resembling a narrow bar. They operate on a separate unit from your standard car headlights, which means that they use a separate switch, wired on a separate circuit.

Keep in mind:

  • Many drivers don’t know that their vehicle is equipped with fog lights.

How it's done:

  • The faulty fog light switch is identified and the trim panel is removed for access
  • The defective fog light switch is removed
  • The new fog light switch is installed
  • The trim panel is reinstalled
  • The fog lights are tested for proper operation

Our recommendation:

The fog light is not part of any regular service, aside from a bulb check. If your fog lights aren’t working, the problem could be a faulty switch, and this is something that can be diagnosed by one of our expert mechanics.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Fog Light Switch?

  • Fog lights do not turn on

How important is this service?

If you drive on the highway in areas that are prone to fog, heavy snow, or other adverse conditions, properly working fog lights can help to ensure your safety and that of other motorists. If your fog lights aren’t working, have it checked out and replaced if necessary.

BMW Z4 L6-2.5L - Oil/Fluid Leak - Concord, California
When spending $100 on a fluid leak diagnostic, one would expect mechanic would thoroughly look in all areas to determine all leaks; that's what the description of the service states. I don't feel this happened. The mechanic found major leak, the one that he (mobile mechanic) could fix, but I had to convince him to look under the car to see if oil pan was leaking. Once under, he determined a leak from the oil pan, but couldn't say the severity or if there were other leaks because he stopped short from looking everywhere under the car. As far as I'm concerned, there could be other oil/fluid leaks but would never know if not looking at all possible locations. I've been trying to take care of this car inside and out, and when I paid for a fluid leak diagnostic I was hoping to solve all leaking issues regardless if My Mechanic could fix them or if I had to bring to a shop. The mechanic, although a good guy, put almost all his attention on the leak he could replace as a mobile mechanic.
