What is the Turn Signal Switch all about?

The turn signal switch, located inside the car on the steering column, allows you to turn the signal bulbs on. Properly functioning turn signal lights are legally mandatory.

Keep in mind:

  • The wiring for brake lights usually goes through the turn signal switch. This means that if the turn signal switch has gone bad, your brake lights may not be working.
  • Some vehicles use a “combination” switch. This switch operates the turn signals, running lights, and headlights.

How it's done:

  • Inspect the switch, fuses, and wirings.
  • Remove and replace the switch if faulty.
  • Operate the turn signals verify operation of the exterior lights.

If your turn signal lights do not operate, your mechanic will visually inspect the fuse(s) and operate the switch a bit to see if he can determine where the problem is. Your mechanic should inspect all lights during every major service event.

Adam was great. He was on-time and had to wait because of a stupid HOA rule. He got the car started again recommended a good charger, and was extremely through in his inspection that identified a couple problem with the oil caps that need to be replaced. He is absolutely incredible! Tomas is the BEST when it comes to BMWs, he knows his stuff! My other mechanic tried to help me track down why my car was clunking, made me replace the strut mounts that weren’t even bad... almost $400 later, Tomas said my issue was the control arm bushing has play to it. He was right I saw it, gonna buy all 4 control arms and have him fix them. He just did my front brakes and rotors and saved me almost $300!
