What is the Horn all about?

The horn is normally located at the center of the steering wheel. It is used to make a vehicle’s presence known to pedestrians and other cars on the road.

Keep in mind:

  • A problem with the horn might just be a problem with the battery. Having the battery contacts cleaned may solve the issue.
  • A muffled horn can be just as bad as a broken horn.
  • Checking on the condition of the fuse box for the horn is important, to make sure dust and moisture are not present.

How it's done:

  • The vehicle hood is raised and secured in the open position
  • The battery is disconnected
  • The defective high or low horn is removed
  • A new horn is installed
  • The battery is reconnected and the horn tested for proper operation

Our recommendation:

A number of components can cause the horn to malfunction. The battery, the steering wheel, the horn itself, or the wires connecting it together could be to blame. Have one of our expert mechanics check it out and determine if any wires or connections should be replaced after a horn inspection is done.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Horn?

  • Muffled sound when horn is pressed
  • No sound when horn is pressed

How important is this service?

The horn is an important safety feature and a horn malfunction can have severe consequences if it leaves you unable to get the attention of other cars or pedestrians.

Hyundai Sonata V6-2.7L - Alternator - Dickinson, Texas
I cannot say enough great things about John and our experience with him. Our appointment was set for 5:00, but John contacted me just before 3:00 and asked if I was available, as he was done with her prior appointments. So, that is the first "plus" for him. He got to our house before I did, and started doing what he could until I arrived. When I got there, he greeted me by name and with a great big smile. Super nice, friendly, outgoing and awesome sense of humor. But mostly, knew what he was doing and didn't mind answering questions I had, even if unrelated to the problem he was currently working on. I felt so bad because it was so exremely hot outside, but he didn't complain not one bit. Just did what he was there to do. And he didn't seem to mind my husband and I out there talking to/with him while he worked. As he was finishing up with the replacing the alternator, I asked him a question about the A/C not blowing cold air. He said that we probably had a small leak, but that he could fix that problem, too, at least temporarily. He didn't have the hose he needed with him, but ran down to the auto parts store to get it. Before he left, we asked him if he could just add the Freon and hose to our bill, and he said he could and he would just charge us an extra $20. We were definitely okay with that. He returned and recharged the system. When he got ready to leave, he said everything was taken care of and the receipt was in my email. We asked him if he added the Freon and hose, and he smiled and said "no, don't worry about it". We asked him if he was sure because that was extra stuff he had to do for us, and parts he had to buy. He said he was sure and that all he asked is when/if we needed any more work done, to please ask for him. We will be having some more work done to this vehicle and we will DEFINITELY be getting John for the job. And you best believe we will be recommending him to all of our friends and family. Just a super, super awesome guy. As I stated above, just can't say enough great things about him... He definitely went above and beyond and was happy to do it. Thank you so much, John!! You've made a customer and friend(s) for life.....

Dellanos is a superb professional with great customer service skills. He informed me ahead of time that he was running late and the approx time he would arrive. As a military officer I can def appreciate someone who values my time and portrays a good sense of service and duty. He was very professional and knowledgeable about his trade; teaching and showing me about my car prob and potential prob to look for. I appreciate his love for what he does.

Very nice, and explained things in layman's terms. Quickly identified the problem and showed us the part which was destroyed. Very glad to have had him be the one we got. I only want to deal with Jamie from now on.
