What is a brake system flush all about?

Brake fluid is essential for the operation of a car’s brakes. When you push the brake pedal, the brake fluid causes the brake pads to press against the rotors, making the car slow down and stop. Over time, the brake fluid absorbs air, moisture, sludge and other contaminants and gets contaminated. Air in the brake fluid causes braking to feel spongy and significantly reduces braking efficiency. A brake system flush includes removing the existing fluid and moisture out of the system and replacing it with new, clean, fluid. A brake fluid flush ensures proper brake system performance and increases the lifespan of your brake system components.

Keep in mind:

A mobile mechanic will use a hand-held vacuum pump and/or atmospheric pressure to remove the fluid. While it is not as powerful as a pressure bleeder, this is an industry approved method of bleeding your brakes. It gets the job done and provides the convenience of a mechanic coming to you.

How it's done:

  • Remove contaminated brake fluid
  • Add new brake fluid
  • Bleed the brakes
  • Clean any surfaces where brake fluid has spilled during the bleeding process
  • Check for fluid leaks
  • Inspect brake pads, rotors and hoses
  • Test drive car

Our recommendation:

Please follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule and guidelines regarding fluid maintenance. It is a good practice to change brake fluid every 24,000 miles or 36 months. Always use a fluid recommended by your vehicles manufacturer (do not use silicone based brake fluids if your car needs regular brake fluid).

What common symptoms indicate you may need a brake system flush?

  • Brake fluid appears black or brown indicating contamination
  • Brake pedal feels spongy
  • Diminished brake system performance

How important is this service?

If you do not regularly flush your brake system, it will end up costing you more money down the road. As the fluid becomes contaminated, it will eventually cause brake system components to fail and leak. This will also lead to diminished brake system performance, causing a safety concern.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 V8-4.8L - Brake System Flush - Fort Lauderdale, Florida
I have owned a car for just about 25 years and for those same 25 years I have looked, unsuccessfully until today I might add, for a mechanic that I felt really cared about me, and now my family, and not just how much they could up-sell someone with very little knowledge of vehicles. After an awful week of rude and nasty mechanics trying to figure out how much they could charge my wife and I for repairs that we didn't even need, we began to feel like we would never be treated fairly by a mechanic because we didn't know enough about cars to question things we were being told. And then by some small miracle a friend told us about Omar from a company called Your Mechanic. I was extremely skeptical as one of our disasters earlier in the week was by another mechanic that was supposed to come to our house to do the repairs and instead decided to no call no show. But I was running out of options and time. So we scheduled an appointment for Omar through Your Mechanic and my wife and I cannot say enough good things about our incredible experience with Omar. He immediately reassured us that he would only be doing the work that needed to be done and we could expect the truck done in a few hours. I immediately felt all of the bad experiences from the previous week become a distant memory and this was all thanks to Omar and his incredible professionalism while speaking to us. I never once felt as if he looked down on us because of our lack of knowledge about cars. He went out of his way to make sure we not only understood everything but more importantly we were comfortable with his diagnosis and solutions. After we checked with him if he needed anything else from us he said no I have your phone number if I need anything I can call you otherwise I will let you know in a couple hours when I'm done. My wife and I then turned and began to head inside at which point I looked at her and said "unless we come out here and he is gone and the truck is in a bunch of pieces in the parking lot, then I am very confident we have finally found a trustworthy, honest, reliable and genuinely decent human being to be our families mechanic!" And to no surprise that is exactly what my wife and I are confident we finally found today after looking for 25 years. What some people think, and rightly so, is the hardest thing to find nowadays and that is a extremely knowledgeable, reliable, honest, trustworthy and genuinely a good human being to be their mechanic. When he looked at an estimate that we had received from a national chain he told us that we did not need to have the rear calipers replaced, as we were told by the chain, and that saved us another $150. So the national chain's initial estimate was right around $1500 and Your Mechanic's estimate was about half of that. Add to which Omar saved us the other $150 by letting us know the rear calipers didn't need to be replaced at this time because as he stated they still had a little meat on them so he took that off. How easy it would have been for Omar to leave that charge on their knowing full well we had already signed off on it because, once again, we know very little about cars. Needless to say, thanks to Omar we have found our families new mechanic. And he will be as long as we have cars and he is available. But I would imagine the more people that use him, the harder it is going to be to book him. Because everyone knows you cannot put a price tag on a damn good mechanic and that's exactly what we have found in Omar. Thank you Your Mechanic for sending us such an incredible representative of your company. You all should be very proud to have Omar on your team and representing your company the way he does. What a blessing he has been and will continue to be for the Zorovich family for many years to come. Along with ALL of our family, friends and colleagues...
