What is the PCV Valve Hose all about?

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve is responsible for transferring excess gas from inside the crankcase into the intake manifold, where the gas can be used as fuel. These excesses gasses are transferred the rough the PCV valve hose. This system allows the vehicle to utilize excess gas, so that it is not wasted.

Keep in mind:

  • When the PCV valve hose is replaced, the PCV valve should be inspected as well.
  • Sometimes an issue with the PCV valve hose is caused by another component malfunctioning. To make sure this isn’t the case, your vehicle should be tested after the PCV valve hose is replaced, to make sure it is running well.

How it's done:

  • Check PCV system for leaks
  • Replace the hose if it is leaking

Our recommendation:

The PCV system is an important part of regular automotive maintenance. The PCV valve and valve hose should inspected during routine maintenance, and replaced regularly.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the PCV Valve Hose?

  • Check engine light is on
  • Engine is running rough
  • Hissing noise from the engine

How important is this service?

The PCV valve system ensures that your vehicle runs smoothly and efficiently. The PCV valve hose carries excess gas from the crankcase to the PCV valve, where it is added to the intake manifold, and used to fire the engine. When the PCV valve hose breaks, this excess gas will not be transferred back into the engine. As a result, your car will run inefficiently, and less smoothly, and your engine will leak gas.
