Power door locks, including a power lock on the tailgate or liftgate, allow the user to remotely unlock the doors from either a power door lock button inside the vehicle or with a key fob or remote. The action of pressing the door lock button completes a circuit to the door lock relay, which sends power to the actuator on each door to lock or unlock. This motor then pulls a release latch either with a metal rod or a chain and the tailgate locks or unlocks. If the lock doesn’t function when the button is pressed, or if there is a buzzing noise in the tailgate when the button is pressed, the tailgate actuator-motor may be faulty.
The door lock actuators, including the tailgate actuator-motor, do not require maintenance, and can potentially last a vehicle’s lifetime. Should your tailgate power lock stop working, have one of our expert mechanics inspect and replace it if required.
While the tailgate actuator-motor isn’t essential for ensuring your truck stays on the road, it’s a convenience feature most owners enjoy having. Replace the tailgate lock actuator at your leisure.
