What to Expect:

The jets are plastic nozzles that are located right at or near the middle of your hood. These nozzles must spray the windshield washing solution at varying levels of your driving speed. So proper alignment of these nozzles is absolutely critical for the system to work.

A properly aligned windshield washer jet allows you to quickly remove mud and other impediments that would normally get stuck on your windshield. Some of the symptoms that may make you think that the jets are misaligned may actually be due to dirt, ice and other objects that may clog up the nozzle. Also if you use water in the windshield washer reservoir in a temperature that is below freezing, your entire windshield washer system may not operate properly and that will include your jets.

Keep in mind:

  • The jets are the one part of your windshields cleaning system that are completely exposed to the elements. Ice, dirt, leaves, wax, and other objects can easily clog them up.

  • The jets that make up your windshield washer system are usually made out of plastic. These plastic jets also have nozzles on their very back that spray the windshield washer solution onto your windshield, and it doesn’t take much for these nozzles to have an object that dislodges them from their proper position. Older vehicles in particular can have the washer jets misaligned due to the wearing out of glue and other fasteners that keep the jets in their proper place.

Our recommendation:

If the nozzles on your jets appear to be spraying in the wrong direction, or not spraying at all, the jets may need to be adjusted. However this can also be due to the deterioration of the washer tubes or even a windshield washer reservoir that needs replacement. If your washer jets won’t adequately clean your windshield glass, have one of our top-rated mechanics inspect the entire cleaning system. This way you can have the source of the system quickly identified and repaired. For most cars, the cost of replacing your washer tubes, jets, and other related parts is very reasonable. So keep that in mind.

What are the common symptoms indicating you need to adjust the windshield washer jets?

  • Liquid spraying onto areas that are nowhere near the front of your windshield
  • The nozzle of the jets pointing in the wrong direction.
  • Looseness of the washer jets. The ability to easily move the jets from their proper position.

How important is this service?

Vision is one thing you should not compromise on when it comes to your daily driving. In the case of windshield washer jets, you’re adjusting a part that isn’t costly and can make a world of difference when it comes to safety. If you find that the washer jets are not spraying your fluid where it needs to go, then invest in a proper inspection.

Saab 9-3 L4-2.0L Turbo - 30,000 Miles Maintenance Service - Scottsdale, Arizona
Peter was awesome! He even taught me things about my car I never knew including explaining about the air pressure in my tires for the extreme temperatures in the southwest environment. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. It's difficult to find mechanics that service a SAAB where I live or that I would trust working on my car. He made an adjustment to my window that would not close all the way at no extra charge. Peter completed my 30,000 mile service at a cost much less than I would have paid at the dealer and did not try to tell me I needed things I didn't need that the dealer often did. It's difficult to find service people to come out to the rural area where I live. I totally trust Peter with my car repairs and maintenance. Was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Having a record online of my repairs and maintenance is an added benefit. Will never take my car to the dealer again. Look forward to the next time I need service instead of dreading it. Highly recommend Peter and this company. Have told all my friends and family about it. Thank you so much Peter!
