What is the Clutch Fluid all about?

Clutch fluid actually doesn’t exist. Clutch fluid is really just brake fluid that is kept in the clutch master cylinder. When you depress the clutch pedal, this fluid flows from the clutch master cylinder into the slave cylinder. The pressure of the fluid is then used to engage the clutch, which allows you to change gears. After the clutch has been engaged, the clutch pedal will be released, and the fluid will retreat back to the clutch master cylinder.

Keep in mind:

There is no such thing as "clutch fluid;" it is simply brake fluid. It is sometimes called "clutch fluid" because it resides in the clutch master cylinder.

How it's done:

  • Inspect the condition of the fluid
  • Inspect the clutch hydraulic system for leaks
  • Fill the clutch master cylinder with clutch/brake fluid

Our recommendation:

Your entire clutch system should be inspected carefully during any check-up or servicing. It’s a good idea to have the clutch/brake fluid checked regularly, as it can leak or become contaminated.

What are the common symptoms indicating you may need to replace the clutch fluid?

  • Clutch fluid has become contaminated
  • A clutch component has been replaced and the fluid leaked out

How important is this service?

Clutch fluid is really just brake fluid, but it plays an important role in the operation of the clutch. The fluid is stored in the clutch master cylinder. When you press the clutch pedal, the fluid moves into the slave cylinder, where the pressure helps move the clutch, which is too heavy to be moved without the added pressure.

If your clutch master cylinder leaks out brake fluid, you won’t have enough pressure to engage the clutch, and your vehicle will not be able to change gears. If the brake fluid in your clutch system becomes contaminated, it can cause severe damage to the slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder.

He was very helpful before and after the service, our truck is running like it was before he also took the time to evaluate the truck and I appreciate that, this experience separates your company from all the scheming losers I have came across since I've moved from Florida and I will be coming to you all for my truck problems.

Lincoln Aviator V8-4.6L - Oil Filter Housing Gasket - The Colony, Texas
I've had difficulty in writing this review. Angelo was great. Your Mechanic as a company was not. Ultimately, parts were missing from the quote, things were forgotten, I was mischarged, prices went up, and a variety of issues that required email after email and phone call after phone call to resolve and I ultimately paid more than I was quoted initially. That said, Angelo was timely, courteous, and knowledgeable. The job required maybe 5 times as much time as was quoted (partly due things not having been written up correctly by the quote department so he didn't have everything he needed) and he hung in there until things were complete, staying into the evening. He was also kind enough to look at another car and make recommendations there. Your Mechanic is so very close to being this amazing service that will mean I never go back to another garage. With the recent across the board price increases that a rep told me they made, I'll have to be vigilant in getting multiple quotes. But if they stay mostly below garage prices and add in the massive convenience of a mechanic coming to you, I think they have a real winning formula. They just need to iron out the kinks. I'll likely try them again, but if it takes a half dozen emails and multiple phone calls again, I doubt I'll give them a third try.
