What is the Brake Light Bulb all about?

Brake light bulbs are located at the back of the car, housed inside a protective covering (lens). The brake light turns on when you push the brake pedal, letting drivers know that you are slowing down. If the brake light does not illuminate, you’re at a higher risk for causing an accident and/or being pulled over and cited by a police officer.

Keep in mind:

Keep in mind the number of brake lights a car has can vary. The third (or rear window/center) brake light should not be overlooked when doing an inspection.

How it's done:

  • Inspect brake bulbs, sockets and wiring.
  • Replace the bulb, if faulty.
  • Check all the lights.

Our recommendation:

A mechanic should inspect the brake light during a major service. Before replacing a bulb, your mechanic should also inspect the socket and wiring. Due to the high amount of current flowing through these sockets, sometimes the sockets melt, causing the brake light to malfunction.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Brake Light Bulb?

  • Brake lights do not work when brake pedal is depressed.
  • Light Bulb warning light is illuminated on the dashboard.

How important is this service?

When you apply the brakes, your brake light bulb illuminates. This allows drivers behind you a warning that you are slowing down, so that they can slow down as well. A dead brake light bulb will never work, and your car will be devoid of this important safety feature. Not having working brake lights is also illegal, and can result in a hefty "fix-it" ticket.

Hyundai Azera V6-3.3L - Cabin Air Filter Replacement - Lilburn, Georgia
Abdul was AWESOME. He got to my home right on time (little early, actually ), he immediately worked with me, and got my 2nd appt (also scheduled for today, at the same residence) bumped up, allowing him to service both vehicles, back to back (which saved me even MORE time, and eliminated another worry/hassle from my already full plate)-something the customer service rep couldn't/wouldn’t do for me, when I called the 800# earlier in the day, requesting the same thing. Abdul was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and he really DID go above and beyond for me, in his striving to give the best experience possible-he even SWEPT UP THE DEBRIS left by the dirty air filter from my garage countertop! (and made sure to dispose of it too)!! I (already have, actually) will definitely recommend Your Mechanic (and Abdul personally) to friends and family , and be using them again. Slow clap, Abdul, slow clap-I am one very happy customer.

Excellent service and very nice guy. We booked him for a Tuesday appointment because that was the first one available, but he came on Saturday because he finished another job early. The job was done very efficiently and effectively. David has a wonderful personality with a very honorable goal to serve for Mercy Ships overseas. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
