What is the Ball Joint Rear all about?

Rear ball joints are a key part of your vehicle’s suspension system. The ball joints connect the control arm assembly (part of the chassis) to the steering knuckles (part of the wheels). The ball joints serve two purposes: they allow the wheels to steer and they allow the suspension to move freely. The rear ball joint acts nearly identically to the ball joints found in your shoulders and knees; they allow two separate components to operate both independently and together.

Keep in mind:

  • It’s a good idea to replace all of the ball joints at once.
  • In some cars the control arm blocks the ball joint and will need to be replaced as well.
  • After having your ball joints replaced, you should take your vehicle to a mechanic to have the wheels aligned. Mobile mechanics do not have the equipment needed to perform wheel alignments.

How it's done:

  • Remove the wheels.
  • Remove the control arm(s).
  • Remove and replace ball joints;
  • Check the entire suspension system for any problems.

Mechanic William inspected my car, told me the reason the car wouldn't started is that I needed a throttle position sensor. He wasn't able to do the repair but I appreciated he honest and the knowledge that he was giving me about the part a needed. Nicholas was great. He was super knowledgeable about my car and cars in general. Any negative reviews he has probably relates to YourMechanic and not Nicholas directly. I would recommend anyone nervous about using YourMechanic to use Nicholas. He will let you know if something for your car is needed but will also tell you if something isn't needed. I had previously gone to a quicklane store where they listed off 100 things wrong with my car thinking I would do the work through them. I mentioned these to Nicholas and he let me know what he would recommend and then told me what WASN'T needed. They were trying to get more money out of me but not Nicholas. Which says a lot since he get paid if I book all that work through YourMechanic. I felt safe with him working on my car and highly recommend!!!
