There’s no way to visually determine how much oil is being pumped through your engine, so your car’s computer relies on the oil pressure sensor to determine the flow.The oil pressure sensor is a basic electrical switch that provides information to the instrument cluster’s oil pressure gauge with the accurate real-time pressure. When the pressure is too low, not enough oil is being pumped through the engine to lubricate and cool components. When pressure drops below a threshold set by the automaker, the engine oil light on the car’s dashboard illuminates, warning you that driving could be dangerous.
Your car’s oil pressure sensor is an electrical component, and can be subjected to a number of issues, including wiring damage. If you suspect damage to the sensor, or have noticed your oil light come on, have it inspected and diagnosed by one of our expert mechanics.
It is absolutely vital that your engine oil pressure be constantly monitored for potentially dangerous conditions. If your oil pressure sensor isn’t working properly, it cannot do its job, and must be replaced.
