Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement Service & Cost

What is the Crankshaft Position Sensor all about?

Many newer cars have computerized engine management systems that rely on sensors to report data to the computer. The crankshaft position sensor is used in conjunction with the camshaft position sensor to control ignition timing and to let the computer know when to inject fuel and provide spark sequence. Due to the mounting locations of this sensor, it is common for heat and oil leaks to cause this sensor to fail.

Keep in mind:

  • Damage to the crankshaft position sensor is sometimes caused by leaking oil, which means there may be another component of your vehicle that needs replacement or repair.
  • The electrical connector can also be damaged, and should be inspected every time the position sensor is replaced.

How it's done:

  • Scan the car for trouble codes.
  • Remove and replace crankshaft position sensor.
  • Clear trouble codes.
  • Check for the proper operation of the car.

Our recommendation:

The crankshaft position sensor will usually let you know when it needs replacing. The Check Engine warning light will illuminate and you may notice that your vehicle has a hard time starting or running smoothly. When you notice any of these signs, schedule an inspection.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor?

  • Car does not start.
  • Check engine light is on.
  • Car misfires (car runs rough).

How important is this service?

The crankshaft position sensor relays critical information to your vehicle’s computer management system. The sensor provides the management system with the information it needs to control ignition timing, and it lets the computer know when it needs to provide sparks and fuel. Without a functioning crankshaft position sensor, the computerized management system doesn’t receive this critical information, and the vehicle will either not start, or will misfire while you’re driving it.

Fast and easy Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement service at your home or office.

I MUST SAY IT WAS VERY POOR SERVICE FROM THE START. , YOUR MECHANIC JOSE, WAS NEVER ON TIME . HE CAM ACROSS AS UNPROFESSIONAL AND INCOMPETENT , HE WAS NOT SURE WHERE ONE OF THE PART WAS GOING TO- IN THE CAR AND AS FAR AS THE BRAKES THE MECHANIC BROUGHT WITH T HIM THE WRONG PARTS SO HE TOLD ME. THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT IS : AFTER HE FINISHED INSTALLING MY CAR REAR BREAKS IN ALMOST 2 DAYS LATE. and which it took him hours to do HE STARTED AT : 11:15 AM AND FINISHED AT 7:30 PM . JOSE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT THE CAR IS NOT MOVING / THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING . ONLY LAST WEEK I DROVE THE CAR TO WORK SMOOTH NO PROBLEM . FYI. I WAS ONLY ADVISED BY OTHER MECHANIC SHOP WHICH CHANGE MY CAR OIL 2 WEEKS AGO, THAT I NEED TO REPLACE MY REAR BRAKES . I ALSO HAD THE CAR COMPUTER LIGHT WARNING MESSAGE REGARDING THE BRAKES AND WHICH BROUGHT ME TO CONTACT YOUR WEBSITE AND CALL. I SIMPLY WANTED TO GET A BETTER PRICE AND THAT THE WORK TO BE THAT AT MY HOME. WHICH WAS ONE OF MY BIGGEST MISTAKE TO MAKE THIS TIME . I WANTED TO BE WITH THE MECHANIC WHEN HE DOS THE JOB BUT SINCE HE COULD NOT COME ON SUNDAY AS PLANED. HE CAME ON MONDAY 04 04 2016 WHEN I WAS WORKING AN 11 HOURS SHIFT. I PUT A COMPLETE FAITH IN HIM AND IN YOUR COMPANY. NOW I FEEL THAT I GOT BETRAYED. PS . I HAVE SOME RECORDED SURVEILLANCE VIDEOS FACING THE CAR SHOWING JOSE ARRIVING WITH ANOTHER PERSON WHICH I DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS HE AND WHY HE IS DOING THERE. MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPENED MOST OF THE TIME AND THE HOOD WAS OPEN 2 TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROCESS . I AM NOT SURE IF THAT A NORMAL THING CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT ALL HE HAD D TO DO IS REPLACE THE REAR BREAKS . AT THIS POINT I AM EXTREMELY AUSPICIOUS OF WRONG THINGS WHERE DONE TO MY CAR . MY CAR WAS RUNNING BEAUTIFULLY BEFORE THAT .CLEAN AND QUITE RIDE THE ONLY THING THAT I WAS AWARE OF IS THAT MY REAR BRAKES NEED TO ME FIXED. THAT ALL.
