How Long Does a Headlight Door Motor Last?

Making sure that all of the systems on a car stay in good shape is not an easy job. There are a number of systems on a car that are built to ensure that you stay safe while on the road. The headlights are one of the most important safety features that a car has. For the cars that have motorized headlights, it can be a bit difficult to keep them working as time goes by due to the components that power it becoming worn out. The headlight door motor is among the most important parts of this type of assembly. It is used every time that the headlights are turned on and off.

The headlight door motor is designed to last just as long as the car. In most cases, this will not be the case due to the harsh environment that the motor has to work in. There are a number of damages that can be caused by the heat of the engine like the melting of the wires that are attached to the motor. Trying to operate the headlight doors on a car without a properly working motor is impossible and can cause even more damage.

Usually, the headlight door motor is not inspected on a regular basis. This means that the only time this part of a car will get attention is where there are repair issues with it. Not having full use of the headlights on a car can be quite problematic and can cause a variety of different safety issues. It is your job to notice the warning signs of impending repair with this part of your car. When this motor begins to go out, here are some of the signs that you may begin to notice:

  • The door on the headlight stays open all of the time
  • It is impossible to get the headlight doors to close
  • There is a noticeable grinding noise when trying to close the headlight door

Trying to force the headlight doors closed will usually lead to more damage and a higher repair bill. As soon as you start to notice that there are repair issues with the headlight door motor, you will have to should out some professional help to have your headlight door motor replaced.
