Peter said during our initial conversation that he had worked on Northstar engines and based on the symptoms (stalling, hesitation at low RPMs), he concluded the problem was the EGR valve, and it may need to replaced. He suggested I order the part, which I did, but did not mention the accompanying gasket (which would also need to be replaced).
The new EGR valve did improve the sound of the engine while idling, but the tachometer still doesn't register RPMs at low idle, and it still stalls. Thanks to the numerous attempts from my last stall, my battery is now dead.
Although my gut and research says it is the Crank Position Sensor, $178 later (labor) I am back to square one, a car that won't crank.
