What is cleaning the throttle body all about?

In order to run efficiently and smoothly, your vehicle needs a fuel mixture that is a perfect combination of air and gas. The air intake system is responsible for providing the air part of this equation. The throttle body is the component of the air intake system that determines exactly how much air to let combine with the fuel. When the throttle body is dirty it’s unable to let the right amount of air into the engine.

Keep in mind:

  • The air intake ducts should be examined when the throttle body is cleaned.
  • When the throttle body is cleaned, the entire air intake system should be inspected.

How it's done:

  • Take the snorkle off the throttle body
  • Spray brake cleaner on the throttle plate
  • Scrub plate with a brush
  • Spray the brake cleaner again
  • Reconnect snorkle

Our recommendation:

Your entire air intake system should be thoroughly examined during routine maintenance and servicing. Consult your owner's manual to see how frequently your throttle body should be cleaned.

What is a common symptom indicating you need to clean the throttle body?

  • Racing noise from the engine

How important is this service?

The air intake system draws air from outside of the vehicle, and blends it with the gas to create the optimal fuel mixture for your vehicle. The throttle body is the part of this system responsible for controlling exactly how much air is added to the gas. When the throttle body gets dirty, it is unable to allow the optimum amount of air into the air intake system, and the air-gas equation will be incorrect. As a result, your engine will not run smoothly.

Toyota Yaris L4-1.5L - Clean Throttle Body - Tampa, Florida
What a refreshing experience. I had just about given up on mechanics/mechanic shops and here shows up a very punctual, honest guy who took the time to explain everything to me. Did not try to up sale or say other things needed to be fixed. I can't say enough about this individual, very professional. I now have a reliable mechanic to help me out.
