What is the Mirror Control Switch all about?

Sometimes the issue is not a broken mirror itself, but that the mirror does not move. The mirror control switch is an electrical mechanism that adjusts the mirror. It can stop working and may need replacing.

Keep in mind:

  • If your mirror doesn’t move it could be that the mirror itself is broken, not the switch.
  • Physical damage to your mirror will often keep it from moving, even if the switch is still functional.

How it's done:

  • Test the fuses.
  • Test operation of switch.
  • Replace the switch if found faulty.
  • Check operation of the mirror(s) in all directions.

Our recommendation:

There’s no way to preempt a faulty mirror switch. When you notice that your mirrors no longer move when you try to adjust them, schedule an inspection.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Mirror Control Switch?

  • Mirror does not move

How important is this service?

Mirror switches are designed to make driving safer. When different drivers get in a car, they can use the mirror switch to adjust their side view mirrors so that they have the best view of their surroundings and their blind spots. When the mirror control switch fails, there’s no way to adjust the mirror, and your mirror will not be able to move into the correct placement for safe driving.

I’m the kind of person that looks at reviews to determine if I try something new or not. As this was my first time using YourMechanic, coupled with the stigma of mechanics overcharging or creating problems that don’t exist to wrack up cost, I was highly skeptical. The quote I got seemed honest and I was happy that someone would come to me in a space that I was comfortable with. I was matched up with Jamahl and I was glad I was. Last time I checked, Jamahl had a 5 star rating and he deserves each one. I needed a replacement of my starter ($258.31) and Jamahl fixed it and what seemed like an hour. This was also done at 6:30pm which was really convenient for me (of course, this is not the only time you can make an appointment.) He was courteous in his demeanor and it felt more like a friend doing me a favor than a stranger mechanic. We had a nice conversation throughout him working and by the end of it, he did do a brief expection of my car but it did not feel forced like other institutions that try to upsell brake pads when you go in for an oil change. He suggested my serpentine belt needed to get changed but actually showed me that there was cracking so I didnt feel like I needed to take his word for it or feel the need to “call my knowledgeable friend” to make sure his suggestion was legitimate. If you are looking for an honest mechanic who won’t make you feel inferior or feel like you are getting ripped off, Jamahl is your guy %100. If anyone gives Jamahl less than 5 stars they can KICK ROCKS....
