The oil resides in the oil pan, which is under the car attached to the bottom of the engine. All internal (moving) parts of the engine need to be lubricated by the engine oil. I didn't have any special work done, just an oil change and tire rotation. No issues at all. He advised on future changes to air filter and brakes. He didn't try to pretend that there is urgent work that needs to be done now (like some other places do).
