What is the PCV Valve Hose all about?

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve is responsible for transferring excess gas from inside the crankcase into the intake manifold, where the gas can be used as fuel. Everything was fantastic until the follow through on the repair. We were told a part would be ordered to fix our vehicle and it would take 2-3 days to get it, followed by 2-3 hours to fix it at our house. We waited from a Monday to a Friday with no follow up from either the company or the mechanic. We contacted the company today (Friday) and now are told that they don't make the kind of repair we were told was going to happen. How is this possible? We were so excited for this kind of service and already started telling all our friends about it, but now we will have to retract all that and say this service really only has the capability of a AAA, which we already pay for, but didn't use because we thought we were getting service beyond that. We really liked the mechanic and would have given him all 5 star ratings, if we didn't have this issue -- so, not sure where the disconnect lies in this situation, but we are extremely bummed this didn't turn out to be a great new solution for us to use going forward.
