What is the Fog Light Switch all about?

Your fog lights work to reflect off not just fog, but also snow, glare, and dust particles – in short, anything that can obstruct your vision. They can also help you to see animals, tree branches, or other debris on the road so that you’re able to avoid them. Fog lights are positioned near the bottom of the front bumper of your car, and they deliver a flat, wide beam resembling a narrow bar. They operate on a separate unit from your standard car headlights, which means that they use a separate switch, wired on a separate circuit.

Keep in mind:

  • Many drivers don’t know that their vehicle is equipped with fog lights.

How it's done:

  • The faulty fog light switch is identified and the trim panel is removed for access
  • The defective fog light switch is removed
  • The new fog light switch is installed
  • The trim panel is reinstalled
  • The fog lights are tested for proper operation

Our recommendation:

The fog light is not part of any regular service, aside from a bulb check. If your fog lights aren’t working, the problem could be a faulty switch, and this is something that can be diagnosed by one of our expert mechanics.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Fog Light Switch?

  • Fog lights do not turn on

How important is this service?

If you drive on the highway in areas that are prone to fog, heavy snow, or other adverse conditions, properly working fog lights can help to ensure your safety and that of other motorists. If your fog lights aren’t working, have it checked out and replaced if necessary.

Acura CL V6-3.2L - Engine Control Module (ECM) - Loxahatchee, Florida
I was absolutely "beyond happy" at the professionalism and technical competence of this seasoned mechanic. He knows exactly what he is doing & explains things clearly and concisely. I would highly recommend Chip to family, friends, colleagues and anyone who wants to get their car fixed right the first time. He is truly an asset to "Your Mechanic". I am so happy to have my wheels back, as I was borrowing my dad's vehicle until I got it fixed. I will be requesting Chip again for his expertise on 2 other vehicles I own. I have no doubt he will shine again.

Acura CL V6-3.2L - Coolant is leaking - Alta Loma, California
Rodric did a fantastic job! He diagnosed the problem like he's been doing this kind of work for 25 years. I know for certain that had I taken my car to the dealership for repair, my bill would have been triple. I've used Your mechanic a couple of times and I definitely highly recommend them. Couldn't be more convenient.
