Coolant is responsible for absorbing heat from engine components and dispersing it by allowing air passing through the radiator to cool it. The water pump circulates coolant through the engine, and the water pump inlet is a connection that allows coolant to move from the engine into the water pump. The size of the inlet will vary depending on the make and model, and it will generally be located on the driver’s side of the engine behind the pulleys and belt. If the water pump inlet is leaking, an air pocket can develop in the cooling system which can cause overheating and lack of interior heat production. An extreme coolant leak can cause engine damage due to lack of coolant flow.
The water pump inlet on your vehicle doesn’t have a specific service interval or any required maintenance. It should be inspected during regular servicing to check for leaks. If the water pump inlet tube is leaking, have one of our expert mechanics replace it immediately.
A coolant leak can cause overheating, which will severely damage an engine. If the inlet is damaged, corroded, cracked or leaking, it’s very important to replace it as soon as possible.
