Water Distribution Pipe Replacement Service

What is the Water Distribution Pipe all about?

The water distribution pipe is responsible for transferring coolant to specific locations throughout the engine cooling system.

Keep in mind:

  • If you opt to do it yourself socket set, screwdriver, wrench, spark plug wire puller, sealant, clean rag, rubber mallet, and of course a replacement water distribution pipe (which is potentially many times more expensive than getting a technician to do it for you).
  • Be sure to place your vehicle in a well-ventilated space with proper lighting to help you see its components better while doing this repair.

How it's done:

  • Professional technicians are best equipped to check if the water distribution pipe is leaking with a coolant pressure test for the cooling system.
  • Access the pipe by taking off engine components such as the air box, fan shroud, cooling fan, serpentine belt, radiator hoses, and coolant hoses.
  • Remove the hose clamp and secure the fasteners.
  • Certain pipes have coolant sensors that will need to be removed or replaced.
  • Do the procedure in reverse.
  • Drive test the car to verify. Let it cool down to check the coolant level and then fill it.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Water Distribution Pipe?

  • Steam coming from your engine
  • Coolant leaking under the front of the vehicle
  • Poor heater pressure out of vents
  • Rust, buildup, or corrosion at the water pump site

How important is this service?

The service is vital as it controls your engine’s cooling and temperature; a malfunction can cause your engine to overheat and damage internally.
