What is the Driveshaft all about?

The driveshaft transmits the power (torque) created by the engine to the front (front wheel-drive), rear (rear wheel-drive), or front and rear (four wheel-drive) of the vehicle as required. A 4WD vehicle may have two driveshafts.

Keep in mind:

  • A four wheel-drive vehicle may have two driveshafts, in which case you may only need one replaced.
  • A vehicle with modified height will run a greater risk of having a damaged driveshaft.
  • When your driveshaft is replaced, all other components should be checked for quality, and the U-joints should be properly lubricated.
  • In some vehicles, it is more straightforward and affordable to replace the entire driveshaft than to replace a single component.

How it's done:

  • Remove and replace drive shaft.
  • Perform basic safety inspection.
  • Test drive the vehicle.

How important is this service?

A driveshaft is responsible for transferring power from a vehicle’s transmission to its wheels. The driveshaft receives the torque from the transmission, and uses it to turn the wheels. As the driveshaft gets damaged, it doesn’t do its job as well, which puts undue pressure on other parts of the vehicle, which can cause damage. When the driveshaft ceases working entirely, the vehicle won’t be able to send power to the wheels, and you won’t be able to drive.

Walter is a top notch mechanic. He does a great job. I would highly recommend him to anyone, any job, any vehicle. He's a 10 out of 10. He made sure all tasks were completed. Awesome mechanic. However, as far as the customer personal every agent wasn't good. Rosa and Julia are the only customer service personal I would ever speak with on the phone to complete another job. Both had empathy, great listening skills, effective communication, and compassion for their jobs. It could be heard. As for Jesus, Ceasar, Don, Kenya, Bianca needs more training with job coaches and should listen to my calls. They didn't listen to me and should have completed the tasks at the first call. Customer service personal are the first line of contact with the customer so everyone needs to be on the same page from the beginning, same verbage, same understanding, same information for the company. I can see Moblie Mechanics as a trend for the times , due to pandemics. People will need them to come to the house and work places to complete car mechanical needs. Thank you so much for your time. Hi. Im not sure how to describe the problem im having. In overdrive crusing at 80 kmh all good but when I put the foot down its like a jerking movement from the rear of the car. The power doesnt seem to want to go to the back wheels then it picks up and settles down smooth again. Ive had the center bearing replaced on the tail shaft and the shaft was re ballanced but they didnt replace the donuts at the front or the rear. Dont know if its drive shaft or trailing arms or something else. It is most noticable in overdrive not so much in lower gears and thats confusing me.
