Car Door Lock Actuator Replacement Service

What is the Door Lock Actuator all about?

A door lock actuator is the component in electronic door locks that is responsible for locking and unlocking the vehicle’s doors. When a button is pressed to lock or unlock a door, the door lock switch triggers the actuator. A small motor in the actuator then triggers a series of gears. The final gear is connected to a rack and pinion set of gears, which converts the rotational motion of the motor into the vertical motion necessary to lock or unlock the door.

Keep in mind:

Some modern vehicles have a complete door lock assembly which can’t be separated into individual components. These vehicles will need the entire assembly replaced, rather than just the actuator.

Our recommendation:

The door lock system shouldn’t be checked unless you notice that something is wrong. As soon as you notice your vehicle behave oddly when you lock or unlock the doors, schedule an inspection.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Door Lock Actuator?

  • Doors won’t lock.
  • Doors won’t unlock.
  • Doors will only lock or unlock sporadically.
  • Doors make an unusual noise while locking or unlocking.
  • Car alarm goes off randomly.

How important is this service?

A door lock actuator is responsible for locking and unlocking your doors. When the door lock switch is triggered, the actuator’s motor powers a set of gears that lock or unlock your door. When the actuator stops working, there is no communication between the door lock switch and the door locks, and you’ll be unable to lock or unlock the door.

John came to my house on time, was very polite, and installed a new door lock actuator on the drivers side front door of my Lexus GS350. He was very patient and meticulous with his work. I watched him do most of the work while talking with him. There were two wire connections and 5 electrical connections inside the door, and another hidden cable-ball joint for the outside door handle that he had to discover. He took his time and did an excellent job. I will ask for him every time I need service again on either of my cars.

Excellent just b! Toby arrived early. Was able to easily explain gongs to me since I am not technical. He was able to repair our car in freezing weather and the test and have me test to confirm it was working again. Thank you Toby for making my life easy! You are amazing!

Highly knowledgeable and very friendly. He answered all of my questions patiently in a thorough and sincere manner. He was upfront about everything and did not try to up-sell me on anything. One of the best experiences I have had with a mechanic.

Mark was awesome - I've already recommended use your service and request him in particular. Outside of all the standard stuff that I'd expect from a mechanic, he also got me outside a couple of times to show me things that needed further work. Spending another $400 is much more palatable when I can see that things are cracked while the car is taken apart (and I think the fact that he can do that is one of the best things about having the repairs done in your driveway). When he was done, he showed me all the parts that he had replaced and let me know about what else I should watch out for in the future (for example, he told me my battery was nearing the end of its life and sure enough it died the very next day). His manner is great, and I'll be requesting him for all future services.
