How Can I Apply to Work as a Technician at YourMechanic?

YourMechanic is redefining how car owners have their vehicles serviced by delivering top-notch service at their home or office. One of the most important parts of this redefinition is making sure that we work with the top talent in the field, who take the best care of customers and their cars. That’s where you come in.

If you’re tired of giving almost all of your income to a shop and want to be your own boss (without all the paperwork headaches), apply to YourMechanic. With us, you earn $40/hr to $60/hr - up to $1,500/week. Plus, you work directly with your customers. We order your parts and cover your work with our 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty.

At traditional shops, if the customer is on vacation, and doesn’t pick up the car for two weeks, you don’t get paid until the shop gets paid. With YourMechanic, you get paid at the beginning of every week for the work you did the week prior.

Here’s a real weekly pay stub from one of our technicians:

You set your own schedule at YourMechanic. The service hours are 6am to 9pm local time every day of the week, and you can choose how many days, and how many hours each day, you want to work. If you want to go on vacation, there’s no need to book time off days or weeks in advance - just mark the time off in your calendar and head out on that cross-country road trip you’ve always wanted to take.

At YourMechanic, you get to be your own boss, and your hard work is rewarded and appreciated by the customers you serve. Star technician Peter P. in San Diego has this to say: “this really is a chance to run your own business. You get to make the repair decisions and have the final say. It’s great for somebody who’s honest, as there is no pressure to upsell things that you’re not comfortable upselling.”

If you don’t want to miss any more time with family and friends, join us and have a fully flexible schedule today.

Click on the above link and fill in your name, email, phone number, and zip in the “Apply now” box.

You’ll then be prompted to fill in basic information, such as which types of cars you want to work on and the kinds of services you can perform:

Next, you’ll be asked about your skill level for popular makes of cars. We define “Apprentice Mechanic” as a mechanic who is learning the automotive trade and taking classes in automotive repair, electronics, and computer use. A “Journeyman Mechanic” is able to use test equipment to diagnose vehicle on board computer systems and by more traditional methods including visual inspections and test drives. A “Master Mechanic” has been a journeyman mechanic for at least 15 years.

After you’ve entered your skill level for each make, you’ll be asked to fill in which tools you own and know how to use:

Once you’ve reached this stage, we’ll conduct a background check on you. You’ll be prompted to enter your Social Security Number and driver license number.

After you pass the background check, you’ll sign our contract:

Then you’ll complete a W9 and enter your banking information so you can get paid every week.

Finally, you’ll complete your profile with a bio and photo:

This process - including the background check - takes about one week on average. A member of our service team will call you within 48 hours to learn more about your background and answer any questions you may have.

Once you’ve completed the entire application, you’ll be asked to complete a test appointment. The test appointment is assigned to you only after you’ve passed the initial screening. You’ll use this appointment to get comfortable using our mobile app as well as to demonstrate your technical skills.

Once these steps are complete, you’re accepted to the platform and can begin accepting appointments! If you have any questions during the process, you can call us anytime at 1-800-701-6230. We’re here every day from 9am to 5pm PST.
