What is the Peanut Award?
At YourMechanic, we believe in recognizing excellence and rewarding employees for outstanding contribution to the company. The purpose of the award is to identify and acknowledge employees who go above and beyond their responsibilities to move the company forward. Each month, we award a bag of peanuts to one employee who makes a significant impact on the success of the company.
Where does the award come from?
The peanut award was created nearly 15 years ago by our President and CEO, Anthony Rodio. Anthony created the award in 2004 while working at StubHub and YourMechanic is the fifth company to give out the award. Anthony believes in an internally collaborative, externally competitive culture. YourMechanic recognizes employees that are taking the initiative to make the company better. Their contributions and accomplishments serve as an inspiration to continue with the same passion.
But why peanuts?
Pushing the peanut is a theory; the only way to reach one’s goal is to overcome a seemingly impossible obstacle. The approach comes from an old party game, in which contestants must inch a peanut forward using only their nose, breath, or some small contraption. These seemingly futile steps result in victory for the one who completes them. To achieve all goals, one needs to maintain momentum -- ultimately push the peanut forward.
Who are the recent Peanut Award recipients?
Buddy is the Head of North American Parts & Service. He spends most of his time with parts purchasing, vendor relations, and ensures our parts purchasing decisions not only support our top-line growth but support the bottom line as well. Buddy's mission is to reduce acquisition cost and have the best quality parts available for all customers. His comprehensive auto parts background, creative ideas for price improvement, and outstanding sales abilities make him the only recipient in the company's history to receive this recognition just after two months of joining.
Kristy is an HR Generalist and YourMechanic's superb Officer Manager. She handles everything from employee relations and benefits to onboarding programs. She also ensures the office runs smoothly every day and her creative ideas make each office party unforgettable. Kristy focuses on improving company culture through various employee recognition programs. She is a recipient of the peanut award because of her dedication to all YourMechanic employees.
Patrick is a Senior Front-End Engineer with a background in design and web development. He focuses on improving the booking experience for our customers, including an easy-to-understand price break down. He provides substantial long-term value to the company, and his sense of ownership motivates others.
