How YourMechanic is Changing Customer Service in the Auto Industry

YourMechanic was created in order to make car repair and maintenance affordable, convenient, and transparent. Car repair has long been a cumbersome and frustrating experience for many car owners and the industry is not known for catering to customers’ needs. We’ve turned it upside down by having our mechanics come to you. Our dedication to treating customers well is accomplished by instituting a three-pronged approach.

1. In-house Customer Service team

We have a dedicated team of Customer Service professionals who answer phone calls from 6am to 5pm PST, 7 days a week. In a typical week, the service team answers 4,000 phone calls, replies to 1,000 emails, and closes 950 tickets.

The Customer Service agents guide customers through the booking process. When booking an appointment, customers are asked to describe any noises, or symptoms of the issue, such as noise from the brakes or suspension. Customer Service agents also answer calls from people who want to understand more about YourMechanic’s less expensive and convenient alternative to dealerships and independent shops. People wanting to ask basic questions about the service, how it works, and our policies make up about 30% of all callers.

2. User dashboard

We’ve created a new, user-friendly dashboard to manage the maintenance of your car. You can keep track of past and future appointments, maintenance reminders, repair estimates, receipts, service history, personalized mechanic recommendations, and more.

Sign up for a free account or log in and you’ll notice the following new online resources -- all of which are 100% free:

Maintenance reminders: we keep track of the service intervals specified by the manufacturer and notify you when scheduled maintenance is due.

Car health monitor: preventative maintenance is essential for keeping your car running well and it’s important to address weak areas before they turn into major repairs.

Your complete service history: all services performed by YourMechanic are automatically tracked in your account.

Appointment and quote management: view upcoming appointments, saved quotes, and pending estimates.

Chat with your mechanic: chat live with your mechanic without ever leaving your home or office.

Personalized mechanic recommendations: after a service or diagnostic, all repairs recommended by the mechanic are instantly recorded in your account.

Ask questions for free: Ask our mechanics any question or browse over 5,000 articles.

3. Onsite service

Simply put, we come to you. Our top-rated mechanics perform car repair, maintenance, and diagnostic services at car owners’ homes and offices across the U.S., 7 days a week.

We make the entire process easy for you. Using our website or mobile app, you can access the maintenance schedule of all your cars, get a fair and transparent estimate, book an appointment, make payments, access service history, and receive maintenance reminders.

The quality of the customer service delivered by our mechanics is extremely important because they’re the main point of contact for car owners, and we continuously monitor and work with our team to ensure they deliver top-notch service.

In fact, customers rate the mechanics after each appointment. Each time, he or she is evaluated on timeliness, presentation, cleanliness, accuracy of work, and customer communication. Mechanics are not allowed to accept new appointments if their average rating goes below 4 out of 5 stars.

Customers love having the opportunity to build a relationship with the mechanic doing the repair; in fact, many of the mechanics we hire choose to work with us because they enjoy taking care of and educating their customers.

Having a built-in support network, an easy-to-use online dashboard to store all your car details, and mechanics who come to you make up the three spokes to our service wheel. Together, these features guarantee an experience that’s focused on you - the car owner - and making sure your car gets back up and running quickly and safely.
