Brakes use calipers to press the brake pads to the brake rotors until the automobile stops. This is much easier said than done, though. For this to happen without adverse effects, slides and clips are necessary to hold the caliper steady. The slides and clips are small spring metal pieces that hold the brake pads vertical in the caliper and make movement easier. Without clips and slides, the brake pads can bind in the brake caliper and cause problems with bringing your vehicle to a stop.
Whenever your brakes are inspected, the caliper slides and clips should be looked at also. Even the smallest problems—which issues with the slides and clips may fall under—can be potentially dangerous. If you experience any challenges with trying to stop your car, have one of our expert mechanics inspect and replace the caliper slides and clips if necessary.
If your brake pads aren’t moving easily in the caliper, it can cause difficulty bringing your vehicle to a stop, especially under panic braking. Excessive wear is possible if the pads will not release fully as well. Have the brake caliper slides and clips replaced as soon as possible.
