About Our Service

What is YourMechanic?

YourMechanic provides car repair, maintenance, and diagnostics at the convenience of your home or office. Our expert, highly rated mechanics provide services in over 700 U.S. cities.

The service is not only convenient, it’s also more affordable. Since our mechanics are mobile, we have significantly lower overhead costs compared to auto shops. And as a national brand, we are able to negotiate better prices from auto parts vendors. We pass these savings on to you.

Through our website and mobile app, you can request quotes, book services, and access advice from expert mechanics. With your free online account, you can also view the maintenance schedule and track the service history of your car.

How does it work?
  1. Simply request a quote by providing your location, car, and services needed
  2. In most cases, we will give you an instant quote. You will see the breakdown of labor fees and parts costs. If an instant price is not available, we will send you a quote within one business day, often sooner.
  3. You can book an appointment by selecting a time that is convenient for you. Mechanics are available 7 days a week, 7am to 9pm. You will be matched with a mechanic who has the necessary expertise to perform the work on your car. You can see reviews of the mechanic before you book. Only customers who have completed an appointment with us can write a review -- this guarantees that all reviews are from real customers.
  4. Your mechanic will perform the service at the convenience of your location, given that you have 1) Site Permission for the work to be completed, if not your own property, 2) your car is parked in a driveway or parking lot away from traffic, 3) your car is cooled from driving and 4) your car is on a level surface
  5. We bill your credit card only after the work is done. You can access your service report and receipt in your online account.
  6. All qualified services are backed by our 12-month / 12,000-mile (whichever comes first) warranty.
Do you do warranty work or collision damage repair?

If you have extended warranty, we can work with your warranty provider. We currently do not work with OEM and do not offer any OE warranty services. We also do not provide any collision related repairs.

Does YourMechanic have a refer-a-friend program?

One way existing customers can enjoy discounted YourMechanic services is through our Refer-a-Friend program. For every friend you refer who completes a service with us, you will earn a $20 account credit. Sign up for an account and instantly receive a personalized referral link. Share this link using email or social media with your friends and family. 2. You'll love the ease of online booking, payments, and service records. Our mobile app will make it even easier for you to deal with car issues on the go.
  3. As a network of mobile mechanics, we don’t have the overhead costs like shops and dealers. As a national brand, we are able to negotiate better pricing from parts vendors than your local garages.
  4. Total transparency will give you total trust: You can see mechanics’ work history, reviews and ratings from car owners in your community, their certifications and more. You will also get a detailed price breakdown with labor and parts information (no hidden fees and no shady markups).
  5. You will love having your own personal mechanic: Unlike shops and dealers where you are always talking to a service manager, you will work directly with a mechanic who will answer all your questions and give you advice. The work is done right in front of your eyes. You can choose to see how the work is done or you can go about your life while the mechanic is working right outside.
Can a mechanic really fix my car at my location?

Yes! All maintenance and basic repairs can be done right in your driveway. Our certified mobile mechanics carry all the tools, scanners and lifts to do most repairs at your home or office. We service several thousand cars every month, from simple jobs such as oil changes and replacing brakes to more complex repairs like replacing timing belts. As long as you meet our S.A.F.E. site requirements, you can use this extremely convenient service. Ensure your service site is S.A.F.E.:

Site Permission: The site's owner must approve of the scheduled service(s)

Away from Traffic: Be parked in a driveway or parking lot

Free of Heat: The engine must be cool, avoid driving an hour prior to your appointment

Even Surface: Ensure your vehicle is on a hard, level surface

Pricing

How can I get an estimate?

You can request an estimate online by selecting your location, car and services. In most cases, we will give you a price instantly. You will see the breakdown of labor fees and parts costs. There will never be any surprises or hidden costs. If an instant price is not available, we will send you a quote within 24 hours, usually sooner.

What is your hourly rate?

We don’t charge for our services based on time. We give you a fair and transparent labor price quote, and you pay the same price whether it takes less or more time for the mechanic to complete the service. We calculate the price based on an estimated time and we apply a labor rate that varies by city -- it can be anywhere between $99.99 to $169.99 depending on where you live.

Is there an additional fee for the mechanic to come to my location?

No. We don’t charge a drive fee or convenience fee.

Am I supposed to tip the mechanic?

Our mechanics do not expect a tip of any kind. Instead of leaving a tip, please recommend the mechanic to all your friends. You may also want write a review on their profile and rate us on Yelp.

Is there a fee for a mechanic to diagnose my car?

Yes. We charge a diagnostic fee to come to you and diagnose your car. This fee covers the inspection and diagnostic time and cost of driving to you. Diagnostic fees start at $130, but may vary by market. Start a quote to understand pricing in your area- there’s no commitment until you confirm an appointment!

Does YourMechanic offer discounts or coupons?

You may have seen coupons or promotion codes on sites other than YourMechanic. These external sites may give you false information, because although YourMechanic does give discounts on occasion, such as for Black Friday or Cyber Monday, to access these discounts you must be on our email list, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter. One way drivers can enjoy discounted YourMechanic repair, maintenance, and diagnostic services is through our Refer-a-Friend program. For every friend you refer who completes a service with us, they will get $20 off and you will earn a $20 account credit. Learn more about YourMechanic coupons and discounts.

How is the price calculated?

All of our pricing is determined by our Fair Price Calculator, which is based on decades' worth of car repair information and the industry standard labor guide. Our parts pricing is based directly on our wholesalers' prices. Our online pricing system is fair and impartial; we give you a transparent price.

Is it more expensive than going to shops and dealers?

As a network of mobile mechanics, we don’t have overhead costs like shops and dealers. As a national brand, we are able to negotiate better pricing from parts vendors than independent local garages. The bigger the service, the more you save. For smaller services (e.g., oil changes), the cost may be slightly higher than local shops because mechanics must earn a minimum amount to justify the cost of traveling to you. If you value your time, the convenience of a mechanic coming to you may easily justify spending a little more than local shops on those smaller services. And of course, you will always get a fair and transparent price before you book a service.

Is there a cancellation fee?

We appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to change an appointment. It’s free to cancel more than 48 hours prior to your appointment. If you cancel within 48 hours of an appointment you will be charged a $150.00 cancellation Fee.

What if the mechanic finds that my car needs more or less services than I had requested?

You’re always in control. If our mechanic finds your car doesn’t need all the services you requested, we’ll remove those unneeded services and lower your bill, right on the spot. If your car needs additional repair services, our mechanic will provide you with an itemized list of what you need. You can decide to accept or decline those additional services.

What does the diagnostic service include?

If your car has a problem, you can book a mechanic to perform a diagnostic. A mechanic will come to your location and inspect your car. Our mechanics go through a step-by-step process to rule out or confirm any part(s) failures. Diagnosing a problem is a process. Sometimes the only way to prove that a part is defective is to replace it and recheck the car. Your mechanic will diagnose the car and then provide preliminary recommendations and repair estimates, based on their visual inspection and any tests performed. The inspection report may include photos, test results, audio notes, recommended services, and a service estimate (if applicable).

What is the Locked-In Booking Discount?

Upon booking your appointment, we offer customers an option to opt into a locked-in booking discount. This means, as the customer, you agree to keep the appointment date and start time and will NOT reschedule the appointment in return for a discounted price. If you choose to accept the locked-in booking discount, your payment method on file will be charged immediately for the discounted total. If you decide to reschedule your appointment, the discount received will be immediately charged back to you; you may also be charged a rescheduling fee in accordance with our rescheduling policy. If you decide to cancel the appointment, the amount charged to you will be credited back to your account in the form of YM Cash. You will be charged a fee in accordance with our cancellation policy.

Parts

How do I know the parts are of good quality?

The parts team at YourMechanic has gone through a rigorous filtering process to select the brands that are best suited for your car. Our parts catalog has a list of approved brands for each type of car and each type of part. We take pride in having a network of mechanics that uses high-quality parts. Whenever possible, the parts used are OE parts or aftermarket parts that meet or exceed OEM service specifications. When reviewing your quote, you will see the brands of the parts. Each part is clearly marked as OE, OE equivalent or aftermarket.

Where are the parts coming from?

We buy parts from several vendors -- from local vendors to wholesale suppliers across the nation, allowing you to receive high-quality parts at reasonable prices. Currently there are over 100 warehouses nationwide that ship parts directly to our mechanics. Whenever possible, we prefer OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or OE-equivalent parts, and we think they’re better for your car. We also offer high-quality aftermarket parts, often from the same manufacturer as the original parts.

Do you ever use Remanufactured or used parts?

We don’t engage in the business of supplying or installing used parts. Only in very rare cases do the mechanics in our network ever use remanufactured parts -- usually in older cars where the parts manufacturers have discontinued the production of new parts. In those rare cases, the parts will be clearly marked as “remanufactured” on your quote.

Can you help me find parts from junkyards or auto-recyclers?

We apologize, but we don’t engage in the business of sourcing parts from junkyards or auto-recyclers. In most cases, we prefer not to install parts that are used or sourced from junkyards due to liability issues.

Can I provide my own parts?

Yes, you are welcome to buy your own parts and book one of our mechanics to install them. When reviewing your quote online, open the “price breakdown” tab, and click on “parts options.” From there, you can choose to remove all the parts from your quote. Please note: when you provide your own parts, our service warranty is voided.

Billing

How do I pay for the service?

We require a credit card to book an appointment, but we will only process the payment after the work is done. If you need to change the credit card number, you can give the mechanic a different card.

How can I resolve my billing issues?

Please send an email to hi@yourmechanic.com or call 1-855-347-2779. Please provide your account information (phone number or email) when you contact us.

Can I pay by PayPal?

Not quite yet, but we hope to offer it soon.

Where can I find my receipt?

We will email you a copy of the receipt and service report after the mechanic has finished working on your car. You can access your receipt any time through your online account.

Can I pay by check?

We apologize, but we do not accept checks.

What about Bitcoins?

Soon. Promise.

Mechanics

How do mechanics work with YourMechanic?

YourMechanic is a network of expert mobile mechanics. Independent mechanics apply to join our network. Every mechanic goes through an extensive screening process that includes background, criminal, and reference checks. Once approved, mechanics are booked for jobs through YourMechanic.

Your service agreement is with YourMechanic, not the individual mechanic. Although you are provided the service by the mechanics in our network, we stand behind the service with our 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty.

How do I get a mechanic who specializes in my car (Honda, Ford, BMW etc.)?

Our system matches you only with a mechanic who is qualified to work on your car. Many of our mechanics have dealer or factory training with certain brands. Some of them have years of experience working on certain types of cars (e.g. German cars, domestic cars, etc). You can see their particular strengths and expertise on their profiles, as well as reviews from previous customers who own the same make of car as yours.

How are the mechanics screened?

Mechanics are screened through a two step process:

Step 1: We perform a background check, skills check, and one-on-one interview with the mechanic. About 5-10% of the mechanics who apply are approved.

Step 2: If the mechanic passes the screening process, we allow them to accept jobs from customers. Our mechanics are rated by the customer after every job to ensure the highest service standards are upheld.

Are the mechanics certified?

Most of our mechanics are certified by ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence). Some of our mechanics are certified by similar organizations and/or have dealer or factory training. You can see mechanics’ certifications on their profile online, which is accessible during the booking process. You can also review their experience, work history, jobs completed for other car owners, fees paid by other car owners, and real customers’ ratings and reviews. We take pride in being totally transparent.

Warranty

What is the warranty on labor and parts?

We stand behind the workmanship and parts provided by mechanics on our platform. Every service booked through YourMechanic comes with our 12-month / 12,000-mile (whichever comes first) warranty, measured from the date the services are provided and the odometer reading shown on the applicable invoice. You can read the entire warranty document here and the customer agreement here.

How can I file a claim under this warranty?

To inquire about obtaining service under this Limited Warranty (if applicable), email us at hi@yourmechanic.com or call us at 1-855-347-2779 within the Warranty Period. When contacting us, please describe the nature of the problem and provide the email or phone number you used to request the service.

Do you carry proper liability insurance?

Yes. YourMechanic carries commercial general liability insurance for services performed by the mechanics in our network.
