Q: would a bad oxygen sensor keep my truck from starting?

asked by on July 18, 2016

My engine light has been going off and on the past few months. I took it to be put in the computer and it said a bad O2 sensor. So lately my truck will act like it's about to start and die. Every time it will do that. But come back ten minutes later it will start right up

My car has 234000 miles.

The O2 sensor will not cause the no start. The no start can be caused by the fuel pump or the ignition system. You should check the engine for spark and fuel pressure, when it is not turning on to help narrow the problem down. The ignition system may be the coil, module, or pick up in the distributor. How do I replace the crankshaft position sensor and where is it located on the engine?
Hey there. The crankshaft position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement) (ckp) is located at the front of the motor to the left of the harmonic balancer. Unfortunately, my information system doesn't have the correct replacement procedure. This is a common issue with German...

Hi there. You can adjust the throttle plate on the throttle body or adjust the throttle position sensor. If making the adjustments has no effect on the engine idle, then there could be a vacuum leak or the Idle Air...

High RPM, Low acceleration after crossing water logging
Manual transmissions are directly geared and so a fault in the transmission itself will not cause "fluctuations" in engine RPM. However, a malfunctioning clutch pressure plate and/or contaminated clutch friction material could be a cause of RPM excursions. Fluctuating engine...
