Oil/Fluid Leak Inspection $94.99 - $114.99 Get a Quote

Hi there. First check the oil in the engine. See if the oil is milky and not dark in color. If the oil is milky, then there is either a head gasket that is burned and putting the coolant into the oil system or an intake manifold gasket that is leaking coolant into the engine. If the oil is clean and not milky, then the coolant is coming out of the engine but it may be draining onto the exhaust system and burning off. Look around the engine and see if there is any white residue on the engine. This would be around any freeze plugs and around the head gasket. If you need further assistance diagnosing a coolant leak, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Why is the check engine light always on?
You are correct that when the Check Engine light is illuminated with no drive symptoms you will not have any indicator if any more problems are happening. That is, unless another light comes on or you get symptoms you did...
My clutch will not work.
Your clutch hydraulic system works very similarly to your brake system. If the clutch pedal is stuck in the down position and cannot be moved up at all then the clutch master cylinder has failed and has seized internally. If...
Put the wrong type of gas into my car

I replaced the brake light switch. Gear lever unlocked because it had locked. Now the brakes feel hard.
Hi, thanks for writing in. You need to check the brake switch install adjustment. You may have the switch adjusted too tight and it is holding the the brake pedal partly down. This will cause the brake master cylinder to...
Rattling/Clunking/Scraping when turning. CV Joint or Axle failing?
Hi - if your car is front-wheel drive, then yes - this noise is almost certainly a CV joint in the front axle (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-an-axle-cv-shaft-assembly-last) has gone astray. The axle assembly will need to be replaced (the outer joint is not...
Can I add water or fluid to the reservoir till I can get a flush and fill?
Yes, you can, and should, add coolant to the reservoir to make sure the engine cooling system does not run low. Add only a 50-50 (water-antifreeze ratio) coolant mix to the overflow tank, particularly if it is winter season. If...
Had axles and outer tie rods replaced. Now I hear loud creaking sounds coming from front near middle of van 2007 Chrysler Town & Country
Hi there - your symptoms describe possible worn strut bearing plates (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/new-gas-struts-installed-groaning-noise-like-rubber-on-metal-can-or-should-you-grease-them-by-adam-h), or a power steering rack that is worn. Both tend to "creak' a bit more during cold weather. I recommend a " steering & suspension inspection](https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brakes-steering-and-suspension-inspection) performed by...
