Q: Starter keeps cranking

asked by on June 25, 2016

I turned my key and the van started turning over and wouldn't stop. It burned up my starter and solenoid. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I replaced both and the ignition switch. When I hooked the battery up it did the same thing. What is going on. Oh and the key didn't ever have to be in it

My car has 150000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

You have two starter relays. Check and change the starter relay on the inner fender near the battery. Follow the red battery cable to the inner fender relay and this should be your problem. If you are still having trouble, a technician from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location and inspect your car and replace your starter relay if needed.

Hello have you ever heard of a starter lever going bad, not the actual starter in a 2011 hyundai sonata
This was a known recall on many Hyundai Sonatas in this year. There is a technical service bulletin (https://www.yourmechanic.com/advice/tag/technical-service-bulletin) issued: TSB 13-EE-001. Your car should have the 100k warranty. I would recommend taking this to the dealer to have them...

Upon hitting a curb, a piece of aluminum with foam on it ( about the size of my hand ) ripped off of my 14 focus. what is it?
If you hit a curb hard enough to cause a splash or heat shield (or bumper fascia component, if it is that) to dislodge, I would be more worried about damage to the tire, rim, and possibly the suspension, particularly...
Brand new battery. car won't start 1996 Saturn SL. Went to the store just fine. Go to leave won't start, made noise, now nothing.
Hello, thank you for writing in. The first thing to check with your starting issues (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-not-starting-inspection) are the connections to the battery. Make sure the battery cables are clean, dry, and tight. From there, you will want to look into...
