Automotive Expert
Hi! Joseph Hope I can help sorry to hear about your car not starting have you checked the main fuse links next to the battery ? let me know Thank you Roy!
Automotive Expert
starter electrical

Yeah it tested good
Automotive Expert
elec
Automotive Expert
Okay you need to check and make sure the shift is all the way in park and the BCM is working also to activate the starter relay

Is the idpm bad ?
Automotive Expert
it could be if the relay is not working

ipdm
Automotive Expert
that has the starter relay built into the IPDM-ER

It doesn't click when I start it only when I put a test light on the starter small wire
Automotive Expert
Operation
Automotive Expert
I use a scan tool and check the park siganl and starter relay signal to see if they are working
Automotive Expert
Also make sure your [brake](/topics-brake-nissan/) lights are working
Automotive Expert
Will your dash and radio turn on at all ?

My brake lights are working
Automotive Expert
Okay will the ignition turn on just not starting ?

It doesn't change to acc or lock
Automotive Expert
no radio operation or heater ?

Yeah it doesn't work but the battery is good
Automotive Expert
If not you could have a bad steering lock also
Automotive Expert
Bulletin

It goes to ready mode only when I put a test light on the starter small wire
Automotive Expert
that is the starter signal wire

The [steering wheel](/topics-steering-wheel-nissan/) was hard to turn before it cut off though
Automotive Expert
if the ignition will not turn on at all you could have a bad steering lock
Automotive Expert
Flow chart to help find the issue

It was no continuity in the solenoid could it be that
Automotive Expert
if the ignition is not turning on that could be your issue I would inspect with a scan tool next cold be the steering lock

How do I check that
Automotive Expert
I would use a scan tool and check the operation

My headlights would work though if it was my steering lock right

My headlights not working though
Automotive Expert
Okay I would check the main power from your fuse links off the positive battery cable

I just bought a new one
Automotive Expert
Have you check all your connection and grounds off the battery

It has a voltage drop of .2 it that good
Automotive Expert
main power to fuse links
Automotive Expert
you need to see if you have power from the battery to the fuse links check for battery voltage at all these fuses

It has no power the test light doesn't come on
Automotive Expert
start at the battery and then to the links and see where you have a voltage loss

The test light comes on but it has a voltage drop though
Automotive Expert
If you have a voltage drop you have a bad connection or harness or bad groundCheck voltage at the starter and back of alternator also

Could I had worn out the ignition switch by keep trying to start it
Automotive Expert
sounds more like a voltage issue headlamps come from the battery voltage
Automotive Expert
Just post back if you need anything Thank you Roy

What would you test first
Automotive Expert
All voltage to the fuse links and starter and alternator

I'm getting nothing on the test light checking the fuses in the fuse box what does that mean
Automotive Expert
that means you have no power from your battery to the fuse box have you checked the alternator main power

It checks good with a test light
Automotive Expert
yo need to check the main fuse links next like the 40 amp 30 and 50 amp fuses

Where are these located
Automotive Expert
under the hood in the black fuse box
Automotive Expert
box

Yeah it's no powerI don't see any 40, 30, or 50 amps fuses
Automotive Expert
in a black box I think next to your battery

Yeah I know where the fuse box is I just don't see any 30, 40, or 50 amp fuses just 10 and 15
Automotive Expert
then you are not in the correct box it has 2 relays also horn and cooling fan

it not 50,30,40 amp fuse the first three ones but it was running before
Automotive Expert
do you have power at those fuses ?

No power
Automotive Expert
the 100 amp fuse from your battery link power those fuses
Automotive Expert
power flow

Yeah it's no power to the 50 amp fuse the battery fuse link is good tho
Automotive Expert
Okay if you have voltage then you Must have a harness or connection issues to the fuse box

Why does the relay only click when I put a test light on the starter signal wire though
Automotive Expert
could be signaling the starter relay

Why am I'm getting 12 volts to the starter signal wire when im not trying to crank it
Automotive Expert
you have 12 volts at the starter little wire ? and main big wire ? if you do the starter should be turning

Yeah when I'm not trying to crank it the test light is bright though
Automotive Expert
you need to check actual voltage if you had 12 volts the engine would be cranking if starter works

Yea I have 12 volts to the starter but how come my headlights don't come on the fuses tested good
Automotive Expert
they come off a different power source fuse from the battery

Does the steering lock have to do with the headlights
Automotive Expert
each fuse off the battery fuse link powers a different set of fuses you might need to have your car inspected by a technician you have some electrical issues you also need to monitor the systems with a scan tool

is the ignition switch supposed to be stuck on on position ?
Automotive Expert
No

It's getting 12 volts could it still be bad
Automotive Expert
What has 12 volts

The ignition switch
Automotive Expert
You still don’t have voltage to the fuse from your battery that’s the place to start firstIf you don’t have voltage to all your fuses nothings gonna work correctly

Yeah I have voltage to the fuses the ignition switch is stuck on on I don't know if that has to do with the ueadlDid you fix a car similar to what's happening to mines?
Automotive Expert
I thought you told be you have no voltage from battery to 50a fuse under hood There are a lot of inspection you can not do without the correct scan tools you need to have someone help you no easy fix

Yeah the fuses has 12 volts
Automotive Expert
What fuse

The fuses in the fuse box it tests good but it's not getting power to the headlights
Automotive Expert
Not sure what fuse your talking about the one under hood or inside fuse box or the IPDM-ER

Yeah the 40, 30, 50 amp fuses is getting power but it's not getting power to the headlights
Automotive Expert
Headlamp fuse ?That’s gets it power from the IPDM-ER CONTROLLER
Automotive Expert
headlamp control

Should you would check the headlamp fuse next ?Can you show me a wiring diagram with the headlamp fuse
Automotive Expert
you need to check the headlamp switch and BCM and IPDM-ER operation with a scan tool
Automotive Expert
locations
Automotive Expert
48 49 51 52

It's power there why would the headlights not turn on
Automotive Expert
Do you have power at the headlamps fuses

Yeah it has power
Automotive Expert
Are you sure the headlamps fuses have power they should only have power with the switch turned on

It has power when it's turned off
Automotive Expert
Okay it shouldn’t have power until relay is activated from switchAre you sure you are checking the correct fuses in the IPDM-ER the pic I sent ?

Yeah what does that mean
Automotive Expert
Not sure if you have power the lights should be on also if not the IPDM could be badOr headlamp bulbs burnt out
