Q: Head gasket gone

asked by on March 17, 2016

My head gasket is gone.

If your head gasket has gone bad, stop driving the vehicle as soon as possible. A head gasket replacement does require removal of multiple engine parts to replace and is usually a costly repair. This is why many people decide to sell or junk their vehicle after a diagnosis such as this has been made. My first recommendation would be to determine what the vehicle is worth financially as well as personal value and compare that against the cost of the head gasket replacement. If replacing the head gasket is worth it, have the repair done as soon as possible by a certified engine technician. If the cost of the repair outweighs the vehicles value you have two choices at that point. The first choice is to continue driving the vehicle until the engine fails and get the most out of the car that you can but you will inevitably end up broken down on the side of the road at some point. The other choice is to sell or junk the vehicle and get as much money as you can out of it while the engine is in somewhat decent condition.
