I took my car in a few times now because when I am coming to a stop the rear end is shaking. First they said it was my tires, so we replaced them, then they said it was my rims, replaced those, then they said it was my breaks, and we got those taken care of. After that it was still doing the same thing, and they ended up replacing the rear right hub, which did not resolve the issue. I received notice that there is a recall on the rear [suspension](/topics-suspension-ford/) to link, Is there a way this could be the root of all these issues? Mechanic's Assistant: How has the ride been lately? Have you noticed any fluid under the car? YES! Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? I called the dealership about the recall but they said because of the other issues I needed to take it back to the shop and have them resolve the continuing issue. Everything was covered under warranty other than the rear hub that cost me $750 2016 Ford Explorer Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Explorer yourself? What have you tried so far? Sport 4x4 Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? My main question is from the listed issues that have already been worked on can all of this be linked to the recall part. If so is the dealership responsible and if not what could the possible issue be.

Here is a copy of the recall if you have not read it already. IF your vehicle is one of the 319,000 affected by this recall then the dealer is mandated to perform the repair for free. The dealer can run your VIN number to determine if it is one of the affected vehicles. This part that is in the recall would not cause the concern you are having with the vibration/shake. But if it is covered, I would definitely get it repaired. Quick question. You said it only shakes when you are coming to a stop? Does it start to shake when you let off the gas and before you hit the [brake](/topics-brake-ford/)?

it does. And it is leaking a fuild/oil near the front driver sideI received a letter that the suv is one that may be affected by the recall.
Automotive Expert
Did you have the leak looked at by the shop?

I figured that since this part is attached to the hub they replaced already that the recall part caused the damage to the hub.I have an appointment to drop it off tomorrow at the quicklane owned by Ford tomorrow. I called Ford today and they told me since they have been doing all the services they have to check it out first.
Automotive Expert
That part is not directly connected to the hub assembly. Per NHTSA, the dealer is required to perform the repair. I would see what they have to say and go from there.

With in the last 3 months they bleed the break lines, and refilled the fluid, did the oil change, replaced the tires, the rims, and the right rear hub. and machined the back rotors down from whatever the break damage was they first thought was the cause of the problem. But the dealer doesn't want to do the recall repair until this issue is resolved. does that make sense to you?
Automotive Expert
Have they done anything with the rear differential? Change the fluid and inspect carrier bearings?

That was their original suggestion before they decided it was the right rear hubI do not know about the bearings
Automotive Expert
No it does not make sense. You could just tell them the problem has been resolved and they can perform the repair.

That's what i was thinking. My issue is when I first went to the Ford dealership rather than them taking in the car they sent me to the quick Lane service. Which is what they are trying to get me to do again.Do you have any suggestions.I feel like I'm getting the run around and nothing is getting fixed.
Automotive Expert
well, first off you should have that leak checked out. So have them look at that and tell them the other problem has been fixed so they can do the recall. does the leak look like it is coming from the right side?

Driver side
Automotive Expert
When you feel the vehicle shake, is it before or after you apply the brakes?

Typically when I am applying the brakes. But there is some shaking when I let go of the gas
Automotive Expert
Does it do it at all during acceleration?

If so very slightly and not at all while fully accelerated and going above 10 miles an hour
Automotive Expert
Are there a lot of miles on the vehicle? Sorry for all the questions..

105kIt's fine if it helps me figure out what's wrong with it an an estimated cost to repair I need to know
Automotive Expert
Here is what I would recommend. I would have the oil changed in your rear differential (axle) and the transfer case. And see if that makes a difference. I would also have the drive shaft and carrier bearing checked for any damage. It sounds like they checked everything but your drive train.

How much do you estimate that would cost
Automotive Expert
The fluids should be around $15 qt. Each component will require 3-4 qts. So you are looking at a total of 6-8 qts. Labor might be two hours to drain and refill. Not sure what their labor rate is. Your vehicle is at the [mileage](/topics-mileage-ford/) that it should be done anyways.

Ok thank you for you advice.

You are very welcome. Best of luck with your repairs.
