Q: Ford F150 burglar alarm goes off for no reason

asked by on February 26, 2017

after i lock the truck and leave for a few minutes the burglar alarm goes off for no reason

My car has 140000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Factory- installed and aftermarket alarm systems function in a similar manner. Factory systems may be easier to diagnose because often, the system is accessible with the proper scan and diagnostic tools. Almost like a fault code for engine performance can set the check engine light on, connecting to that same diagnostic port can provide information as to what exactly is setting the alarm off - motion, door opening, etc. Assuming all the doors and hood are connected to the alarm system, there can be an issue with a door or hood latch micro-switch for example. If one of those switches are faulty or even a bit out of adjustment, the alarm system "brain" can assume that someone has opened a door or the hood, and set the alarm off. Also, if the alarm is able to sense motion (vehicle motion) and/or shock (broken glass, impact), one of those sensors can also be at fault. If it is a factory installed system, your dealership service department should be able to get it straightened out. If it’s an aftermarket system, any reputable alarm/stereo installation shop should be able to figure it out.
