I changed my oil 3,000 miles ago, normally I go 5,000. But my oil life is saying 5% and telling me to change it. Why is that? It’s a 2010 Ford Escape and I use Valvoline oil normally Mechanic's Assistant: When was your last oil change? In July 2020, but only 3,200 miles ago. I usually change every 5,000. The oil looks good still too Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Escape yourself? What have you tried so far? I do oil changes myself Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? It leaks a little but not much. I checked the oil and it doesn’t look or smell burnt

Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* to just answer! I will be assisting you with all of your vehicle questions today. Give me one moment while I review your question and I will be right back with your answer, or I may need some additional information from you about your vehicle. The site will ask for a phone call not me so please disregard thanks. Did you reset the oil life light after the oil change?

My main concern is should I change it asap? Or can I wait till closer to 5,000 when I normally would?

Ok but how many months in between oil changes that affects it not just [mileage](/topics-mileage-ford/).

That was my other question. I changed it end of July. I’m at school so haven’t been driving nearly as much so that could be why it’s saying it needs to be changed
