I havevm three thoughts. Transmission input shaft bearing going bad. Shift solonoids fail or you need a transmission flush.

Okay, is there anything that you would recommend I personally do myself to try and fix/diagnose the problem? Or should I contact the local dealership as soon as possible?

I would not mess with dealer ship take to transmission shop or some one you trust. Check fluid and make sure it does not smell burnt.

I have a 2012 Ford Escape. Recently, while accelerating from a stoplight, as it was shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the [transmission](/topics-transmission-ford/) jerked really bad, and then I had a powertrain/throttle control warning symbol show up on my dashboard. But when I turn the car off and later turn it back on, the warning light disappears and the car drives normally. This has happened twice within the last week.
