Q: Cranks but will not start

asked by on September 20, 2016

I have a 2003 Chevy Malibu that i took out of storage after 4 years. Drained fuel tank and added fresh fuel. Tried to start car, would crank, but no start. The car is getting fuel { fuel pump pressure is 52 lbs with key on}. Checked for spark on no. 2 cyl. no spark, but have not checked any of the connectors on the coil packs yet. The manual also says too check fuses { which ones.}. The car was running fine before i took the battery out and put it in storage

As you already know, I would suggest testing the coil packs for spark. Try also checking the crank position sensor to be sure it is working properly. When these go bad they can often cause the coils to not produce any power to the plug wires. engine wont restart when hot, no spark P0340 has 12v on both connectors, freq from 5-11hz when cranking
Since the crank position sensor gets its timing signal off the damper, I would first replace the damper to be sure timing was correct. The fact that this failure occurs after a "heat soak" cycle, and the P0340 code is...

My truck is smoking, shaking and leaking some type of oil. What's wrong now?
Check the engine oil level. If there's a sizable oil leak and if the smoke is due to oil leaking onto the manifold, the oil level could be low. If the level is low and you suspect a leak, just...
my car jerks and seems like it wants to shut down when im at a red light and i roll the windows up lights seem to dim out
This sounds like it could be two separate problems. You may have been on the right track with the battery, but if the voltage drops while the engine is running, that sounds more like a charging system problem. It might...
