Just replaced the alternator in my 2013 V6 Chevy Camaro. I've noticed that the car is having trouble turning over. I have to push the gas pedal a few times before it will finally turn over. After driving short distances (less than 10 miles) my car dies after I turn it off. Driving longer distances will not kill my battery upon turning car off. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you tested the battery with a voltmeter? And can you see if it's leaking or not? I'm unable to test with a voltmeter. The car has one in the inside dash, it reads at 12-14 during idle and drive time. No leaks anywhere. Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Camaro yourself? What have you tried so far? I would like to fix it myself. I have not tried anything thus far. I'm puzzled at what could be happening.

Hi my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I'll try to help you with this issue, the website may ask if you want a call, but that is up to you. So from your description I would be thinking about changing the battery, as it sounds like it is getting weak. If it is over three yrs. old it is likely time. If you do decide to do it either have it done or get it done somewhere , where they can plug into the ADL. and keep power up to the computers while doing the battery so you don't loose any programs or memory

I thought of that first, but it didn't make sense that my car will restart fine after driving over 10-15 miles....yet if I drive up the road to the gas station - it will not restart after I shut the car off.Is there another way to check for a bad/weak battery without a multimeter?
Automotive Expert
Well what you just said tells me a bad battery and a multi-meter is not the best way to test it, you need a load tester which some parts stores may have to test it with, so how old is the battery?

I'm not exactly sure how old the battery is, but it is over 3 years old.Is there a bench test I can perform at home to rule out the starter going bad?
Automotive Expert
nothing you have said tells me a starter is bad, everything leans to the battery, so far.

Okay
Automotive Expert
If it will start I would go to a parts store of your choice and have them check the battery.
