The Best Used Cars to Buy If You Live in a Windy Area

If you live in a windy area, one of the most important things you’re going to be looking for in a used vehicle is the ability to remain stable on the road on even the most blustery days. That means you need a used car that offers great aerodynamic design. The last thing you need is to be stuck in a boxy vehicle that shudders and veers every time a good, solid gust hits.

So, for those of you in windy areas, we evaluated several vehicles that are well-designed in terms of aerodynamics, and we have identified the Audi A6, BMW-i8, Mazda3, Mercedes Benz B-class, and Nissan GT-R as the best used vehicles for people who live in windy areas.

  • Audi A6: You could make the argument that the Audi A6 doesn’t look all that different from many other Audis, but you will notice a difference in windy conditions. This is because the A6 is very aerodynamic – even more so than the A7 – so it moves with very little drag in windy conditions.

  • BMW-i8: The BMW-i8 features aero-optimized alloy wheels, front bumper ducts, numerous furrows to channel airflow, and a perfectly sealed underbody. All this adds up to a vehicle that will give you a solid, safe ride even on the windiest days.

  • Mazda3: The Mazda3 is a great looking car, with smooth lines. It delivers very little drag, and the basic design alone would make this a very stable car in high winds. The icing on the cake is the front bumper’s active grille shutters, which automatically direct the flow of air around the car when the engine does not need cooling.

  • Mercedes Benz B-Class: Don’t let the looks fool you. This vehicle looks chunky, but its designers spent a lot of time in wind tunnels, optimizing every contour, and ensuring that every single contour was optimized for wind resistance. You’ll get a great ride no matter how windy it gets.

  • Nissan GT-R: When you think of how much downforce this rig “should” need to stay in contact with the pavement, the low drag it provides is nothing short of remarkable. It’s all due to the fender aeroblades, along with the rear diffuser and design of the front bumper.

We know that some of the cars on this list may not be all that common in your area, but if you can find any of them used, you’ll get a good, safe ride in the wind.
