What the P2033 code means

P2033 is an OBD-II generic code for the exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit high bank 1 sensor 2 to the engine control module (ECM). This means the sensor signal voltage is shorted high on bank 1 sensor 2, indicating the temperature sensor is out of specified temperature range for a normal exhaust after the particulate filter on diesel engines

What causes the P2033 code?

  • The engine control module signal return from the bank 1 sensor 2 exhaust temperature sensor is out of range, in the high end.

  • The ECM turns on the Check Engine Light if the ECM detects a voltage return over approximately 3.3 volts for more than one second.

  • The wiring or connection to the sensor is shorted to power.

What are the symptoms of the P2033 code?

  • The Check Engine Light will be illuminated and the code is set in ECM memory as a fault.

  • The engine fault may be the P2033 and also particulate filter light may be illuminated.

  • If the particulate filter is clogged then you may have a low power condition.
