How to Prepare for the Washington Driver’s Written Test

If you are going to be getting your license in the near future, you will first have to take and pass the Washington driver’s written test. This test is used to ascertain whether you have the knowledge of the rules of the road before they actually let you get your learner’s permit. Written tests can be difficult for some people, mainly because they have test anxiety, but it could also be due to not preparing properly. As long as you are well-prepared for the test though, you will find that it is actually quite easy to pass. The following are the tips you need to do well on your written test.

The driver’s manual

You need to get a copy of the Washington Driver Guide, which is put out by the Washington State Department of Licensing. This guide features everything you need to know about driving in the state including safe driving, road signs, parking laws, traffic laws, and emergencies. The test is made up of questions taken directly from the guide, so studying it is your best shot at doing well on your test.

Fortunately, you no longer need to go and pick up a physical copy of the guide. Instead, you can simply download a PDF version and have it on your computer. In addition, you might want to take the PDF and add it to some of your other devices. For example, you could put it on your e-reader, such as a Kindle, or your tablet. This way, you can have a mobile version of the manual to study wherever you are.

Online tests

While studying the manual is an essential first step, you still need to do more to prepare for your test. Namely, you want to take some online practice tests. These practice exams work well to give you an idea of how well you will do on the actual test. Once you have read through the guide, take your first practice test online. Write down the questions that you got wrong along with the correct answers, and then focus your study on those areas. Come back and take another test to see how well you do. Continue with this cycle until you are confident that you can pass your test.

A number of sites have these practice tests available. DMV Written Test offers several tests for the state of Washington. The test has 25 questions, and you need to answer at least 20 of them correctly to pass.

Get an app

You should also consider getting some apps for your phone or tablet. The apps have study information and practice questions, and you can get in some extra studying whenever you have the time. Many apps are available for different platforms including Drivers Ed app and DMV Permit Test.

A final tip

A big mistake you don’t want to make is rushing to finish your test. Even if you feel confident that you are going to do well, take your time and read the questions. Then, let your preparation go to work for you!
