Hummer technician career training at a technical institute

Because Hummer is manufactured by General Motors, you will take the same courses to learn to repair and work on GM and Hummer vehicles. The Universal Technical Institute offers students the ability to become Hummer certified in just 12 weeks. If you are already enrolled at a technical institute, you might consider getting your Hummer dealership certification during this time. You can enroll in this program to get certification for all Hummer diesel and gas-fueled vehicles.

You will receive onsite technical training, in a classroom, taught by GM-certified Fleet instructors. The Fleet and commercial training program includes:

  • Hands-on technical assistance during the on-site training sessions
  • Instructional Skills
  • Train the Trainer Programs
  • Hands-on, instructor-led, "system" courses
  • GM Fleet-specific courses delivered on-site at your location
  • Customized content developed to meet the needs of your fleet and your specific vehicle lines

The cost is $215 per day per student.

You will also receive additional training in:

  • Brakes
  • Steering and suspension
  • HVAC
  • Diesel engine performance
  • Engine repair
  • Electrical systems and electronics
  • Maintenance and inspection

  • HVAC
  • Hummer Engine Performance
  • Hummer Base Brakes and ABS
  • Anti-Lock Brakes and Tire Pressure Monitoring

  • Hummer Service Information

In addition to individual classes like these, GM also offers Hummer Service Technical College (STC) to assist businesses and dealerships get more complete technical training for their vehicles. If you’re working at a GM/Hummer dealership, and you want your GM dealership certification, this may be the route for you.

Should I go back for my certification?

If you are unsure about whether school is a good choice for you, why not contact an instructor at the Universal Technical Institute and talk to them about your aspirations and goals? They will be able to provide you with current and valid information.

Whichever path you decide to take, becoming a GM/Hummer dealership certified technician could only improve your chances of working in a dealership or service center, and of making you a more well-rounded and better overall mechanic.
