The Nissan Altima is already a favorite among mid-sized sedans, but it gained even more points with a lot of car buyers with the option to buy a 2012 Nissan Altima Hybrid. Though the four-cylinder Nissan Altima was already rated at 23 MPG in the city and 32 on the highway, the hybrid model would bring those numbers up even more for better fuel efficiency in a reliable car that’s also a lot of fun to drive.
Key Features
The CVT (continuously variable transmission) is one of the key features on any Altima, and the hybrid model is no exception to the rule. The CVT works so seamlessly and efficiently that it even further lowers emissions than the gas-electric motor does on its own. Plus, you can switch it into “sport” mode for a faster, more engaged feel while you drive.
Changes for 2012
No new hybrid technology was introduced between 2011 and 2012, but the Altima did start offering hands-free Bluetooth connectivity for your phone, as well as an enhanced stereo and infotainment center with some packages.
What We Like
Everyone loves passing by gas stations instead of having to stop to fill up, and with its great fuel economy, you can do just that with the Altima Hybrid. We also like that it still feels sporty and quick, even though it has slightly less power than the regular four-cylinder model.
What Concerns Us
The only thing that really concerns us with the Altima Hybrid is that it has been discontinued. While you will currently have no trouble getting parts and service for this vehicle, that may not be the case in the future unless the model is reintroduced in Nissan’s line.

Common Issues
Because it has less power and torque than the regular Altima, some drivers report issues with difficulty accelerating up hills. You can easily find out if this is going to be an issue by taking one for a test drive.
