Considering how much you could spend on a five-passenger, midsize sedan, you have to love the price tag Mitsubishi put on the 2012 Galant.
For being mid-sized, the Galant features ample seating for passengers in the back. In fact, from the perspective of the backseat, this vehicle seems more like it’s full-size.
Depending on which model you decide on, the 2012 Galant provides a number of fun features like keyless entry, a backup camera and a navigation system standard. This isn’t something you’ll get from competitors like the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima or Toyota Camry.
Changes for 2012
Nothing of note has changed with the 2012 Galant. To be fair, the year before, Mitsubishi gave the vehicle an extra half-inch to its height reduction, a power glass sunroof, chrome beltline and HomeLink automatic garage door opener (only found in the SE model).
What We Like
You definitely get a lot of car with the Galant at a great price. It’s always surprising that this sedan isn’t more popular when you consider how much more its competitors cost without doing much to earn the premium.
The Galant is more than just its fun features and space though. While the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine isn’t going to turn any heads, it’s enough to keep the Galant competitive.
What Concerns Us
Mitsubishi didn’t do the 2012 Galant any favors by choosing an extremely outdated interior. From shiny surfaces along the dash to large knobs, the sedan looks it’s a decade overdue for an upgrade.
Along the same lines, the Galant could do with a facelift. The sloping rear and front nose are attractive, but compare it to something like the Kia Optima and it’s easy to pick the winner.
Available Models
You can choose two models besides the basic version: the ES and SE. With the latter, you can look forward to leather upholstery and a remote start. The SE will give you the same, plus a rear-view camera, rear spoiler, iPod adapter and more.
Either way, you’re going to get 21 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway.
