What We Like
The EL offers a 12-inch longer wheelbase which gives almost 15 inches of additional length. This provides a large capacity improvement that has little impact on the fuel efficiency. The keyless entry is also a nice feature because there is less chance of losing your keys ever again, you can just lock them in your car and be on your way.
What Concerns Us
The Explorer seats up to eight people, so if you are looking for something a little smaller and better fuel economy, the Explorer may not be for you. A six or seven passenger vehicle like the GMC Acadia or Ford Flex offer more carlike handling with better gas mileage than the Explorer.

The 2012 Ford Explorer was recalled due to the transmission range sensor that was calibrated wrong. This can cause the vehicle not to go into reverse when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The Explorer was also recalled because of inadequate welds on the restraint support brackets in the second row seats. The head restraints may not provide the required strength because of this.
